Content and Course Outline
While the content standards are very important, the most important part of this math class will be the Mathematical Practices that we learn. These Mathematical Practices are the character traits that all mathematicians have and develop as they learn math. Being “good at math” is less about what you know and more about how you practice the math. Here is the list of the 8 Mathematical Practices that we will be the center of the culture of our math class:

- Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.
- Reason abstractly and quantitatively.
- Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others.

The Absolutely Never Ever List
- Responsible: Be dependable and trustworthy at all times.
- Respectful: Be polite and cooperative with others.
- Safe: Be free from harm of any kind.
The Absolutely Never Ever List
- Cell Phones: Cell phones should never be in my class. If I see a cell phone, I will take it and give it to the office.
- Inappropriate chromebook use: You should only use the Chromebooks for websites I direct you to. If you are somewhere you shouldn’t be, I will take your Chromebook and give it to the office.
- Talk while I am talking or when it is another student’s turn to talk: Please do not talk, even whisper, while I am talking because you are stealing somebody’s ears from me.
- Getting ready to leave before I have dismissed you. In order for me to dismiss you, you will need to all be in your seats. Also, please push in your chairs as you leave.
- Leaving class without talking to me first: If you need to leave the class, please make sure to talk with me first.
- Sleeping in class: If you are feeling sleepy, feel free to stand or ask me if you can get a drink of water.
- Cussing: This includes any words that MIGHT be a “bad” word. If you cuss, I have a form you will fill out.
